Cross Country goes to state!!

On 29 October 2019, the QMHS cross country team attended the Delaney Athletic Conference Championship, where three runners received silver medals. The runners were  Joel Ras, who placed 16th in the boy’s varsity, Makayla Saeteurn, who placed 14th, and Annemarie Harlow, who placed 16th in the girl’s varsity. On 7 November 2019, the QHMS cross country team attended State for their final competition.

With the assistance of both Coach Arcuni and Coach Wood, this season has been one to remember.  The cross country team consists of seventh through twelve grade students that trained in long-distance running over different types of terrain.  They focused their training on runs that consist of 3.1 miles, also known as 5k. The state competition was held in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

This year our cross country team competed against 38 teams from schools all across the State of Virginia.  This season our cross country team had a total of 26 runners in which eight girls and 12 boys ran at State.  The team was able to show off all of their hard work and techniques they learned through the season, such as their fundamentals of pacing and breathing to achieve a better run time. Joel Ras, a varsity runner who achieved a personal best at State with a time of 19:08, shared his love for the sport. “I love to run, and the best part is the suspense of wanting to know your time during the run.”

Adam Miller, a junior varsity runner, achieved his personal best time of 26:59. He shared his thoughts about being part of the team.  “Yes, I would recommend cross country for students next year, especially if you are willing to make friends in the other grades, which makes it more fun.”  The 2019 cross country team made significant accomplishments, and we are very proud of all of them. If you love to run and have a great time like these runners, maybe you can be part of the team next year!
